    Coming May 2007... Get ready for the upcoming sequel of the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, featuring Chow Yun Fat. Interestingly, Singapore has once again been mentioned in the movie (check out the trailer!). Any of you guys remember the word 'Singapore' being mentioned in either the first or second sequel of the Pirates of the Caribbean?

    oh my gosh! you missed so much action by Jack Sparrow and his crews.. and it's JACK SPARROW not Jack Black... lol...I dun really have any preference with watching any of jack black's movies.. haha

    heh, JB is quite the prolific actor. in fact, he's been in loads of movies!

    from memory, Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny, School of Rock, King Kong, Shallow Hal... betcha guys didnt know he was in WATERWORLD, X-files and even Picket Fences!

    On topic... I love it!!! Our Singapura is a pirate hub!!! wonder if the gahmen has plans to develop Singapore into a piracy hub...YAY no more having to buy movies from china!!!!oops...haha jkjk...anyway i think this one is going to be good...definitely less whimsical than the first and way more epic-ish...

    I have an issue with the timeline in the new pirates movie...

    if i'm not mistaken, pirates were big in the 15th and 16th century yeah? and singapore, back then was still temasek, sang nila utama's kids were probably around. us chinese folk only came later after stamford and his boys came i the 19th century...and from what i remember from history lessons in school, the big port/hub was malacca.

    so there. HAH!

    Oh but there were the Straits Chinese too...in anycase its hollywood.there are bound to be inaccuracies with anything asian...

    Wait a minute... if the movie is really set back in the 15th century, or the 16th or any century earlier than 18, I seriously doubt if Singapore was even named as Temasek. Seriously man, I think Sang Nila Utama wasn't even born yet. That's way too early!

    If I remember my social studies correctly, there weren't many straits chinese back in those days. Singapore's just a fishing village filled with mostly Orang Lauts. Heh!

    I think around that time, Singapore was run by kings.. then the Portufese burnt our city to the ground and the ham ji king ran away to melacca

    I believe they were not called "kings"... the national language, if there was one, should be something close to Malay, so probably the "kings" are Temenggongs?

    Me checked...I was right hehe..Singapoe was run by five kings during her golden age which ended in the 14th century.

    Wa Pian !

    i find that the Movie make the Asians pirates look so lousy.

    the way Chow yun fat died is so stupid in the movie. he want to have Miss Swan as his woman & died before he could do anything by the cannon ball.

    the movie is not Singaporean enough. since they come to singapore there should be something more singaporean.

    the ending has no logic!
    it was only 3 ships fighting & the rest are not doing anything.

    usually the leader should be last to go. the leader will send all his kakis to go 1st & himself last. but in the movie the leader was the 1st to chiong.

    in the ending, all the other ships of the pirate lords were not contributing to the fight.
    only action action only. wayang here & there.

    i was expecting in fact the ending to be something like lord of rings 3. a final showdown kind of fight.

    i was expecting to see a east & west combine forces of the pirates against the EIC.
    it was some disappointment to me some rather.

    seems like they did not do sufficient homework about singapore also.

    i agree with you people that Singapore was not yet name as Singapore or singapura yet.

    i did remember that they said that this movie was singapore in the year 1765.
    it was still the Qing dynasty in China.

    & in order to enter into the so called " singapore" at that time all ships have to pass through the dragon tooth gate. which is 2 huge rocks that reasembles the tooth of the dragon.

    in the end the british blew the rocks away as they find it Ting Tae, just like that idot british man who blew our singapore stone into pieces.

    that period of time singapore should be either temasek or another name.
    but the existance of our island to the chinese were already known back then, as it was in the records of Wang DaYuan.

    & there were even earlier records that people are still agruing if there could be possibility that Admirial Zheng He who was an Eunuch & a Muslim from the Ming dynasty already founded Singapore.

    it was believed by many that he spotted Singapore & might have just by pass singapore back then.

    the population of our country back then was merely a classroom size. until Raffels came.
