Thought I would start a discussion on this since:

    1) I'm a movie buff AND
    2) We should not be supporting piracy....

OK, erm... 2 is put in here for kicks. I'm quite sure only a select few would buy original DVDs ONLY. Still, the list doesn't always have to be about new, modern Hollywood blockbusters. If you feel that "Lawrence of Arabia" is a must-have, feel free to voice it out loud.

Must say, I can't work up the interest to watch oldies like "Gone With The Wind", "Casablanca", "Ben Hur", etc....

I must say that my all-time favourite ORIGINAL DVD is "The Rock" starring Nicholas Cage, Sean Connery & Ed Harris. BUT, I'm sure not many will agree that it's worth buying it. Still, for those who has never watched it, if you like action-packed movies, this show would do the trick.

LOL... gotta love the way you phrase the worth of the movie
  2.
Yes. Even AvP was better than Alien Resurrection. Alien Resurrection totalled perverted Giger's vision with that (literal) monstrosity of an Alien-Human hybrid. *retch*

I didn't think too much about the vision or plot of the show when I watched it...to me it's just simple entertainment and feast for the eyes (on the special FX that is...).

If it's for the plot, Shawshank Redemption would be worth it, I believe Matrix trilogy is also worth buying too, though not many people might agree with me... I must say that the 2nd & last episode really makes my head spin when I try to ANALYSE what the film producers are trying to tell me with the cryptic messages hidden in there... *argh*

Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Special Edition. Value for money, chock full of hours of extras in all three sets.

Seriously, mb.... although I agree with you on the endless extras all packed into the DVDs, how many people actually WATCH those extras?! I think ah....most of them buy only because it's cheap. SO... I must say, most would do better to just have the movie DVDs, the extras...*sigh* rarely watch one lah...

I for one have the LOTR as you've mentioned...still haven't got the motivation to start watching the extras... TOO MUCH time spent on them once I start... don't think I can even finish within a week....

i for one love the director's/ actors commentary. and especially love all them "making of" clips. If you pick up the Pirate of The Carribean (the 2nd one) DVD, its got a really cool look into Davy Jones.

    Bill Nighy rocks!!
  3.
Indeed he does. I think we all remember him from Love, Actually.

i just signed up to tell you guys about Born Into Brothels, which was mentioned in the last show. its actualy quite an old film, two years ago i think, where it won the oscar for best documentary, which is when I watched it.

Please do a review on it. I think its a hold alot better then The Inconvenient Truth.a lot of times in movies we tend to hide the 'uglyness' of the human spirit and i think this show really brings this out very very well.. certain truths about humanity that we often take for granted are challenged in this film..

please go watch this film or buy the DVD

    thanks

I have to confess, I watch extras. I pretty much watched all the extra stuff on my LOTR DVDs. Yes, hours and hours of it. In fact, I get upset when the DVDs I buy do not have extras. Haha!

Well, I think POTC should be worth buying once the box set is released.
