Review of Vantage Point is kinda weak.
The filming style was imho the only saving grace of the movie. It wasn’t repeating the same scenes over and over, it’s playing the scenes from a different viewpoint.

The ending is crap thou, i agree.

After watching 10,000 BC, I had the same thoughts about the drastic climate transitions in the show.

And it was as if they, as a joke, took a bit of every movie they liked and pieced them together. Like Meet The Spartans except they are totally serious about it.

And having not seen Vantage Point for myself yet, I can’t say much but having the same scene played again and again even with different perspectives get old really quickly.

It’s ineffective storytelling. Why spend your precious minutes showing the same scene repeated through various points of view if parts or even all of it could be skipped for the plot to proceed more smoothly?

Because it’s either that or there’s no good plot to develop in the first place and they ended up doing this gimmick to attract the moviegoers.

Vantage Point: single episode reiterated with slight changes

10,000 BC: rojak (montage) plot

Cloverfield: jerky handheld camera recording

It seems either novel approaches are running out, or these are awkward much-trial-and-mostly-error attempts to break the mould.
Bad news either way, for tired Hollywood.

2) More deja vu about 10,000 BC ‘cliches’:

1. Tribe destroyed by superior another:
Hey, I watched something similar in Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto last year;
and then, there was Pathfinder…

2. Rapidly changing climatic regions:
Sounds like a bad case of Star Trek movie 3’s Genesis planet; at least that one had some ’science’ to explain it away…

Maybe Roland Emmerich’s formerly clever mishmash formula, also got stale from repetition, after the brilliant Stargate and long-drawn-out Independence Day…

About Vantage Point:

1) I revise my opinion of the movie: it is good enough to be enjoyable.

Forewarned about the vantage jumps (thanks, mrbrown and commenters!), I was actually entertained by the not-same interpretations every time, of the same event.

The frantic chase sequence at the end is reminiscent of several exciting ones I’ve seen before, not least since The Bourne Supremacy.

2) Thanks for the rotten tomatoes.
Sometimes we really need a bad review to fall in love with the movie, and have fun watching it.

3) Especially when we compare what happens in the movie, with what could happen here, in this suddenly more dangerous times (you know, someone escaped, and all the king’s horses and men could not find him…)

I wonder which VIP here would use body doubles, who the Dennis Quaid government hero would be.

And also at the end, how local bloggers and commenters caught in the manmade disaster, would again condemn loudly the incompetence of government agents…

I changed my mind on watching vantage point, i rather watch the orphanage.

I got one question.
Why are horses the ONLY animals that remain the way they look from no matter how long before time till now?

10,000 BC has mammoths (ancient elephants) & saber-tooth tigers (ancient tigers)…but the horses looks normal leh….you mean horses don’t have ancestors ah? They have the exact same look & size..no change….how come?
Hmm…..can anyone enlighten me on that?

Crap….the whole cinema was laughing their heads off by the 3rd time the scene repeated itself…I started keeping track on the number of times of the repetition…then we lost count..hahahah…

The ending…lame…i was disappointed…

yea dude 10000 bc as very boring, amatueristic with weak acting. sudden climatic changes and inconsistencies in language used. looked like a HBO production than a huge budget film.

As a paleontology and archeology buff, I got quite annoyed by all the historical inaccuracies. Galloping mammoths? Men on horseback in that era? Pyramids built by mammoths? Oh the pain…

Ah Jan: Actually, modern horses coexisted alongside woolly mammoths and sabertooth cats, just that they had not been domesticated then. Woolly mammoths did not give rise to our modern-day elephants; the woolly mammoth was a separate species that just didn’t survive to the present day. And the sabertooth cat (not tiger; they’re not closely related to tigers at all) belongs to a separate branch of the cat family that also died out relatively recently. 10,000 years ago, all our modern-day species would have lived alongside many species that are now extinct.

The giant killer chickens are probably based on the terror birds, a family of large predatory birds that unfortunately had already been long extinct by 10,000 BC.

The only thing I appreciated was the way the mammoths were rendered, which was impressive. Even if mammoths, like other elephants, are physiologically incapable of galloping…
